Skater name: Lemon Dropkick

Skater number: 103

Position: Blocker

Years Played: 4 years 4 months

How did you get into derby?: While I was living in Waco I heard about the CenTex Sirens, but could never make their practices. Eventually I moved to Dallas for work and found two of my friends played for ACRD. They encouraged me to join and the rest is history.

How did you select your name?: It came down to the wire. We used to have Rec League bouts a while back and I had to pick a name and number and have it on my shirt for the bout. It was down to 3 options: Pina Collider, Hotmess Monster, and Lemon Dropkick. I love sour things and lemons, so after much soul searching and Starbucks lemon bars, I picked Lemon Dropkick.

What is your day job?: I’m a Microbiologist at a nutriceutical company. I make sure that the raw ingredients and finished products made by my company are safe for people to enjoy.

Worst derby injury?: I’ve dislocated both knee caps, not at the same time. Thank goodness.

Tunes that get you pumped on bout day: Represent by Weezer, Cuz I Can by Pink, Kiss with a Fist by Florence and the Machine, You’re gonna Go Far, Kid by the Offspring, and Na Na Na by My Chemical Romance.

Any current derby crushes?: I’ve got so many crushes I’ll shout out one from each team! Meanie on La Rev because she’s a beast, Leia Herout on my team because she’s become a force to be reckoned with, Goomba on the DKs because those apex jumps are so sick, and Coco on LSA because she’s got a killer booty that knocks you right off the track. I’ve got so many more but this section is already disproportionately long.

Most rewarding derby experience so far: I think the most rewarding experience I’ve had is the time The Ruby’s made it to champs. It was a really hard fought game and although we didn’t win, I was and still am really proud of my team and honored to be a part of it. Bang Bang!

Favorite food: My real food favorite is probably Panang Curry, and my junk food favorites are popcorn and seasoned french fries. I also love lemon things.

Advice for new skaters?: Some skills will come easier to you than others and that’s okay. Focus on your own journey and don’t compare yourself your friends. You can do this no matter how long it takes.
