Bombshells Defeat Lone Star Assassins
ImageThe second-year Bombshell Brigade played steady defensive derby, thrown in with some explosive offensive as they were able to beat the more veteran Lone Star Assassins Saturday night, 98-68 in Assassination City Roller Derby league action. In the second game of the night, the rookie Deadly Kennedy from Assassination City defeated the visiting Central Arkansas Rock N Renegades 125-57.

The Bombshell Brigade started off the game with rookie Mona Bruis'r outscoring Wanda Whompya 4-3 in the first jam of the bout. The next three jams would be scoreless, but then Vanna Rockin' would score 11 points while Red Hot Rage was scoring 3 points for the LSA's. The Bombshell Brigade's lead would not be threatened the rest of the night. Bombshell's Captain Harassiz Mine would score 11 points jam over Red Hot Rage's 8 points scored in the 11th jam. Vanna Rockin' would outscore Lone Star Captain Wanda Whompya 9-4 in the 13th jam and the Bombshell Brigade would cruise into a 52-36 lead at halftime.

In the second jam of the second half, Harassiz Mine would lay an early claim to the league's MVP award as she would skate a 14-0 jam over the Lone Stars, and the Brigade would hold a 71-35 lead. Red Hot Rage would counter with a 10-point jam for the team in black, but that would be the largest jam of the night for the 2006 league champions. A 29-point lead would eventually move out to final 30-point margin at the end of the game.Image

Harassiz Mine would not only be the best blocker on her team with numerous jammers takeouts and effective blocks for the bout, but she would also be the game-high scorer with 43 points. Vanna Rockin' would follow up with 30 points scored, and rookie Mona Bruse'r would chip in with 18 points for the Bombshell Brigade. Mona Bruis'r would be another scorer who would add numerous blocks in the game, to be one of the top blockers for the team in red. Other top blockers for Bombshells included Mary-Ate Ashley, Rehabigail, and Hotroddin' Gin.

The leading scorer for the Lone Star Assassins was Red Hot Rage with 25 points. Wanda Whompya scored 18 points in her last game to skate for Assassination City. The all star will be moving to Iowa before the next bout. Mia Hammer was the third leading scorer for the team in black with 13 points. Kernal Angus was the leading blocker for the
LSAs with other top blockers including Trigger Mortis and rookie Smack the Ripper.

In the final game of the night, the Deadly Kennedys—the Assassination City's rookie team—established a strong offense early and steadily applied pressure that the Rock N Renegades of Central Arkansas just could not handle. The DK's would score in all 15 jams of the first 30-minute half including 7- and 8-point jams by Brandy Danger, a 9-point jam by Smack the Ripper, and a 10-point jam by Sloan Gunman. The biggest jam scored by Central Arkansas in the half would be a 6-point jam by F.U.D.S., as the home team took a 76-34 lead.

ImageSloan Gunman would open up the second half by scoring 10 points in the first jam for the Deadly Kennedys. After that the DK's would concentrate of defense, shutting out Central Arkansas in 8 of the 16 jams of the half. The Assassination City rookies outscored the Rock N Renegades 49-25 in the second half.

The leading scorer in her first derby bout ever was Deadly Kennedy skater Brandy Danger with 36 points. Sloan Gunman, another rookie in her first ever bout scored 31 points for the home team. Smack the Ripper and Olive Illegal would score 21 and 13 points respectively to round out double figure scoring for the Deadly Kennedys. Top blockers for the rookie team would include Mona Bruiser, Mary-Ate Ashley, and Sweet Ass Candy.

The top scorers for the Central Arkansas was BATs with 21 points, F.U.D.S. with 19 points, and Flyin' Saucy with 13 points. All individual scoring is unofficial. Top blockers for Central Arkansas included B. Melicious, Sam-R-I, and Sweet T.

The next action for Assassination City will be on June 21st at home in Mesquite, Texas when the Lone Star Assassins will host the Prim Reapers of the Alamo City Rollergirls, and the Deadly Kennedys will skate against the East Texas Bombers of Tyler, Texas.
