Trigger Mortis

#XX

Trigger grew up tall and right, regulating the halls of the family business, "Live Fast, Die Young", a combination saloon and funeral home smack dab in the middle of Assassination City. By the tender age of sixteen, she became known on the dusty thoroughfare as the fastest draw in town—pretty as a flower, but tough as nails. Though many women tried, no one could outshoot Trigger.

That is, until one day, the third Saturday of the month, at her wedding in the town chapel. On the happiest day of her life, while she and her husband-that-never-would-be were exchanging their vows at the altar, backs to the congregation, two shots rang out. It was high noon and a jealous woman cowardly shot them both in the back. One pierced Trigger's heart, the other, the heart of her true love as he was placing the ring on her finger. Their bodies collapsed on the floor, side by side, just before the wedding rings did.

The culprit, as she laughed evilly, disappeared down the darkest alleys of town.

The townspeople scrambled that afternoon and laid the two lovers to rest in peace with a quick dignified burial in simple whiskey spattered pine boxes in the front yard of the family business. There would be no peace for Trigger, however, as she had other plans…When the midnight hour struck, she crawled her way out of her burial ditch, dead and dirty, but somehow still moving, with only one purpose in mind—to find the woman that snuffed out her light. To this day, if you look very carefully, you can still catch a glimpse of Trigger on the derby track, snake-biting suspected offenders. On the third Saturday of every month, Trigger deals out her own brand of dark vigilante justice in Assassination City.
